Into the Scar
Scout about before moving up the trail. A few miles later, find a cave entrance. The trail continues on. I spot some Gnoll tracks and also some human type tracks. Some giant sized tracks are also here. Human size is wearing boots and going toward the cave. So is the giant sized tracks, but they are not traveling together. Elwin and I approach the cave. Signs of a conflict between the giant and the human. Human leaves. Cave is a 30 x 40ft chamber. Strong odor of something living. Spot a large critter, about 8' high, built like a sloth. Remains of a giant and several baboon parts are scattered about. Report back to the party. I recommend we bypass this critter. Anything that eats giants for lunch deserves to be left alone. We continue up the trail. Mikel spots a likely camping spot a couple of miles further. Once camped, it is not really a good spot, all rocky and such. Large critters moving about in jungle but none bother us. A couple of our group think this trail might lead to an old battleground. Morning. After breakfast, continue up the trail. Mikel scouts overhead. Three large purple dog faced baboons surprise Gracie and Jian. We just thought they would be safe in back. The baboons are quicker then normal critters ought to be. Gracie falls immediately. Short fight. Heal our wounds. I recover six Gambol sinews for later use. Keep going. Toward evening, Mikel spots a scar in the landscape ahead. He also finds another lousy campsite. During the fourth watch, Mikel jolts out of his revery with a strange look. Claims he was divinely visited. “Lord of the Scar is aware of us and will try to deceive us as he has deceived the man of Cuthbert.” “Alacast” is an item that can help us. Navathorn is a demon gathering his minions to oppose us. Cuthbertian is not on this plane. Lair of false sisters is on the way. The weapon might be there. Estimate about a day’s travel to scar. Boiling yellowish clouds forming over the scar. Near the scar, the trail ends as the trees thin out. Ruins of an old city. One ruin is a large cylinder going into the ground. We stay in the jungle for the night. Sulphurous smells drift thru the air. Sleep the night. In the morning, check out the large pipe. It goes down and gets dark. More underground travel. Crap! Interconnected maze of pipes, many collapsed. The map on my plate still seems good. Our tunnel opens into a open pit/crevasse. A ramp and stairs descend into the pit. A foul stench. Bellowing noise from an overhead chimney. Two tunnels exit open area. Move toward the first. A large iron gate bars the entrance. A smallish critter rises from a greenish pool, smiles and breathes a steaming whistling mist, before flying toward the gate. Jian knocks it down with a spell. Mikel trys negotiating but fails. Giants are behind the gate preparing for a defense. Kill the critter, a mephit. Decide to investigate beyond the gate. Elwin can slip thru. Jian casts a Gaseous form on me. I investigate several passages and chambers while Elwin tries sneaking into the chamber with the gate winch. He manages to lift the gate somewhat. I find a room with sleeping Etins. Also a well formed corridor lit by metal plates. One end is collapsed in the distance. Other way is a forge room with a large forge, several broken anvils and a large cage with magical runes on it. Also a giant chair with a giant in it. Meanwhile, Elwin and the others manage to start a fight, but I will let him tell that tale.
